It was one day in August and Aunt Alexandra had her missionary circle over. We were all sitting there when Atticus had came in. He had told me, Calpurnia, Aunt Alexandra, and Miss Maudie that Tom had tried to escape and was shot seventeen times. Then he told Calpurnia that she would be accompaning him in telling the Robinson family about Tom's death.
