One evening the sheriff, Heck Tate, and about four other men come to the house. They tell Atticus that although the trial is nearing Tom Robinson has been placed in the Maycomb County Jail and is concerned about a lynch mob. Later that night, Jem tells me that Atticus and Aunt Alexandra have been arguing about the trial; however, she almost accused him of being a disgrace to the family.
