chapter twenty eight

On the way to the pagent Cecil Jacobs jumps out of the bushes and scares me and Jem. When the pagent was over we heard a bunch of rustling behind us, thinking it was Cecil we kept walking. All of the sudden someone starts running behind us and Jem tells me to run. I started to but when I did my costume made me loose my balance. Jem came up behind me and started to drag towards the house. The attacker pulls him back and he begins sceaming. Once the screaming had ceased I crawled on the ground trying to find Jem, but out of the light I saw a figure carrying Jem home. I got there and told Aunt Alexandra and she calls Dr. Reynolds and Atticus called Heck Tate. Later, he informs Heck that Bob Ewell is laying under a tree with a knife stuck in his ribs, dead.
