Mrs. Henry Lafayette Dubose was an elderly woman who lived down the road from us with no one but Jesse, a negro girl who stayed and helped take care of her. We would always walk by her house on the way to meet Atticus and she would start screaming at us about what a shame Atticus is, how he is an unsuitable parent, and so on. One day Jem was fed up with it, so he took my baton and went crazy on her plants and tore up her whole entire yard. Atticus made him go and apolgize.
